Kathy Loretta Artis Jones departed this life on Wednesday, October 28, 2009. A native Virginian, Kathy was born July 7, 1958 in Richmond, Virginia to Amos and the late Maggie Artis. She was also preceded in death by two brothers: Melvin and Larry Artis. Kathy graduated from Maggie L. Walker High School in Richmond, Virginia. Kathy began employment with the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) in January 1978 in the clerical field. After working in various roles over a span of 32 years, Kathy was eagerly looking forward to her retirement. At the time of her unexpected death, she was an Administrative Services Specialist level 3 in the Operations Planning Division – where she served untiringly. Kathy met Raymond Ernest Robinson in 1988 uniting her son Derrick L Artis, his daughter Patrice N and son Raymond Jr., later they gave birth to Kevin Brant and Janell Denise Robinson forever bonded as family. Kathy's favorite pastime was reading, reading and more reading! She truly enjoyed taking care of her family and was a compassionate and devoted mother. Of all the choices Kathy made in life, the most important one occurred when she acknowledged and accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior several years ago. Kathy leaves to forever cherish her memory - her father, Amos Artis, Jr.; the love of her life Raymond E Robinson; two sons: Derrick Artis (Elita) and Kevin Robinson; one daughter: Janell Robinson; two step children: Patrice Reynolds (Tony) and Raymond Robinson, Jr.; five grandchildren: Aisha, Devin, MaRay, Deymond, Danielle; two sisters: Vanester Artis Williams (Rick), Gloria Artis Harris (Carl); seven brothers: Wayne, Michael, Amos, Ray (Carol), Floyd (Roberta), Ronnie, Tyrone (Andrea); a devoted friend, Johnette Nixon; God child Pam Foster; 4 uncles, 4 aunts; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Remains rest at Chiles Funeral Home, 2100 Fairmount Ave. Family will receive friends Friday, 11 a.m., at Fountain of Deliverance Church, 3800 Broad Rock Rd., where funeral services will be held at 12 noon. Interment Oakwood Cemetery.. To send a Life Tribute or Condolences to the Jones & Robinson family, please click the "Sign Guestbook" link below.

To the Jones Family, I knew Kathy for years as a VDOT employee. As many have said, she always had a beautiful smile, showing the dimples. Kathy is not suffering anymore from the trials and tribulations of this world. She is just asleep, awaiting the resurrection hope that God gave each one of us. Take to heart the scripture found at John 11:25 whereas Jesus said, "I am the resurrection and the life. He that exercises faith in me will never die". May the God of all love and peace grant you the comfort that you need at this time. May God give her children strength beyond what's normal. It is just so sad to lose a mother.

I worked closely with Kathy for a short period of time and considered her to be a dear friend, however the time we had together was never boring and always enjoyable. I will always remember her beautiful smile along with her distintive laugh. Kathy loved her family and friends and would do anything for them. Kathy was here we us for a short period of time, however she touched so many people at VDOT and people she meet everyday of her life. My heart felt condolence goes to her family. May they know she is at peace with our heavenly father and one day we all will she her again.
