This is about Jeffery Gene Vollmer’s life, at least the one I knew. We'd love to hear what stories, love and life he had with you. Please contact us if you have pictures you'd like to add to the Gallery as well.

I had the privilege of having Jeff as my brother for a short 47 years. Jeff was born and raised in Stockton California to Ron and Betty Vollmer, July 12, 1961. Jeff was the curious type, I think from day one he wanted to know the whys of things and life. We shared a home on La Jolla Drive, went to John Tyler for one year then were bused to Martin Luther King, then off to Webster for middle school and then to Stagg Sr. High where he graduated with the class of 1979. Jeff tried many things, constantly investigating something different. Our home was always filled with kids, whether including Mike Noriega, Niki Keyser, Paul Alverez, Ralph Martin, Matt Dinkle, Vern Smith or all of my friends that Jeff was always in the middle of. Barbara Campos, Dawn Cochran, Veronica Perez just to name a few. I would have a slumber party and Jeff would be in the middle of all us, to my chagrin.

My father and mother divorced and not too far in the future we met our step-father Roger Crawford who has been a wonderful guide and person in his life. Our biological father stayed in Jeff’s life but passed away on Dec 5, 2005. Jeff has a step brother KC Crawford and a step sister Cary.

Jeff had the single life while going to and graduating from San Joaquin Delta College with an AA in Mechanical Engineering Tech. He soon went to work for Lawrence Livermore laboratories. Life changed when he met Lisa Feldman. She was the one for him they eventually got married and had a beautiful son Tyler Preston Vollmer, a child so much like himself, full of curiosity and intelligence with that wonderful compassion. A couple of years later he and Lisa had a beautiful daughter Morgan Vollmer. Jeff loved motorcycle riding, had a home full of little critters and there was always something happening at the Vollmer residence. I’m hoping his kids and Lisa will tell you more about what Jeff’s life was about with them.

Lisa and Jeff divorced and Jeff maintained a long distance relationship with his kids traveling to Florida at least once every other month and most holidays. I know he talked with Tyler on a daily basis.

Jeff changed his career a few times but his heart was always in the sales scene. I’d listen to him on the phone so many times and he was a true professional.

When Jeff moved to Rancho Cordova for what I thought would be a great change of pace, he found happiness in living near the American River and having a great pub across the way that dearly loved him.

Jeff met Elizabeth who is and was special to him. She and his best friend Rick were with him when he took his last breath.

Everyone knew Jeff differently, but I think we all can say he wouldn’t hurt a fly; he was a gentle man and a gentleman. He loved his kids…and loved being their dad. He was searching for love and found Elizabeth.

I saw my brother very few times, although we lived in the same area. On occasion he would join Dave and me ballooning either in Sacramento or at the Great Reno Balloon Races. I loved Jeff, I wanted us to grow old together but fate has changed this.

Another week has passed since Jeff passed away. Tomorrow is 12 weeks. I am still struggling with it. I miss him everyday. One of our friends sent me an email with these words that I find great comfort in. I hope he doesn't mind that I share them here as I hope they will bring comfort to others. Thanks Cort: I think that each of us knows that when our time comes, the ones we leave behind will feel the loss. The ones that love you the most will feel the greatest pain and if we could come back and comfort them we would.. Instead the road is lonely but the love will always be in the air. Jeff was always about the love and the joy of life. like all of us he would want us to heal, remember the good times and be happy.

Jeff and I came back from Tahoe a day early because it was our friends Roxanne and Sue's birthday party at Sharon's Lounge. This picture was taken at the party while we were watching a video clip of Jeff doing some crazy stunt to embarass Sue when they were camping. Steve, the friend who made the video was posed with the Camera on me and Jeff because he wanted to catch our reaction. Jeff was embarassed because I was watching it and I just laughed because I knew that was just the way Jeff was. His humor was just one of the many things I loved about Jeff. Jeff is now and always will be in my heart and on my mind. He and I shared so much. He was everything I had ever hoped for. I miss him more than I could ever put into words. As much as it hurts now that he is gone, I am thankful for the time I got to share with him.

Tributes.com I was so looking forward to sharing more high school memories, discovering more mutual friends as we looked over more yearbook pictures, and watching Jeff and Elizabeth swing dance together. I am so thankful that they found each other. It was unbelievably touching to see them together. I knew without a doubt this was what most of us only hope for. A fairy tale love story. I'm so thankful they both were able to experience such an incredible blessing. My heart aches for his children, his family, close friends, and Elizabeth. He is missed so very much.

Another memory has come to me, one of my all-time favorites. Several people went backpacking; the group included my dad, George, Jeff's stepdad, Roger, Jeff, me and a few others I don't remember. We hiked for hours and finally found a mountain lake to camp beside. It wasn't too long after we set up camp that Jeff suggested we swim to the little island in the middle of the lake. The lake, being full of snow run-off, was ice cold. So, at Jeff's suggestion, we build a hut with branches and leaves, made a fire in the middle and added wet stones to make a sauna. We got as hot and sweaty as we could stand and then made a bee-line for the lake, dove in and swam like the dikins to that little island. We were so invigorated! But also freezing cold. We layed in the sun to warm up...but then we didn't want to get back in the water to get ourselves back to our campsite! As I recall, we would dip our toes in the water and refuse to get back in, all the while the air was getting colder and dusk was upon us. We had no choice, if we wanted to eat and sleep in our relatively warm sleeping bags, we needed to get back in the water. Obviously, we did or we would still be there to this day! What a good memory...It bring a smile to my face. It was so like him to do fun stuff like that....thanks, Jeff, for such a good memory....

I knew Jeff Volmer as a co-worker at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, and through being friends with Betty, Roger, and Shelly. Jeff was a creator, imaginative, and always was the source of new ideas. He was always upbeat and had a great sense of humor. There is no doubt that Jeff lived life to the fullest, he was definitely never afraid to try something new! Jeff was everyone’s friend, he somehow seemed to avoid the meaningless conflicts that the rest of us seem find. Jeff was always willing to go out of his way to help others, I never heard anyone say anything negative about Jeff. Jeff was a great husband, father, son, brother, and a true friend in every sense of the word. Jeff will be truly missed, I am certain that he has gone to a happier place.

He loved her and he loved his children and his roommate. They were his whole happiness. The descriptions of the times he shared with Elizabeth will be in her heart and memories for ever. And if he has any thing to say about it from heavon, he will watch his daughter get married, his son find happiness, and Elizabeth not spend her life looking for him again. Thank you Jeff for what you gave everyone you knew.

Jeff and I went to Santa Cruz for the weekend. We took a bike ride along the beach to a lighthouse. We hopped the fence because he wanted to show me a cave that was there. We saw this baby seal and had a fisherman take a picture of us. After the picture was taken we noticed there was a hook in the seals mouth. Of coarse Jeff and I being the animal lovers that we are wanted to help it. Jeff asked the fisherman if he had any pliers or anything that we could use and then he told me; "I will jump on its back and hold it down and you can try to work the hook out." I wasn't too keen on that idea and told him that could be dangerous. I felt the seal was a wild animal and it wasn't just going to sit there while we tried to pull the hook out. Jeff continued to stratigize a way to save the seal until the wildlife rescue group showed up and ordered us to "Step Away from the Seal" Jeff explained we were trying to help it and they said that was why they were here. Jeff helped them clear the other people who had gathered around so as not to scare the seal into the ocean. That was just one of the amazing things about Jeff. He was always willing to do what it took to help weather it was a friend, stranger or animal. I miss him so much.
