Our beloved mother, Evaline K. Johnson, has gone to be with the Lord at her home on November 17, 2009. Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, she is preceded in death by her husband Walter Wayne Johnson, her daughter Gale Marie Johnson, grandsons Jonathan Goff and Ricardo Castillo, and granddaughter Christine Goff.
She met her husband Walter while he was stationed in Hawaii for deployment in the naval Pacific war effort during World War II. They moved to the US mainland after the war. They moved to San Diego in the 1950s, where they remained to their respective passings.
She worked as a nurse's aid until she retired in the early 1980s at Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, CA.
Eva has traveled to the United Kingdom, Ireland, Austrailia, New Zealand, China, South Korea, Japan, and all over North America.
She was a long time active member of the Bonita Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where she was pianist for the children's primary for many decades, and served in the LDS San Diego temple for several years.
Her favorite things to do were eating sushi, crocheting, playing piano, and dancing the jitterbug.
She was a very giving person. She never cared for personal luxuries and comfort, but was very generous to her family. She was very supportive of the education of her children, especially that of her attorney daughter and engineer son.
At the time of her passing, her niece Danielle lived with her and took care of her.
She is survived by her sister Nani, four children Frank, Bonnie, Barbara, and David, and their respective families. She had 11 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
Her family requests that those who wish to send flowers, rather than purchase flowers, please donate the flower money to the Evaline K. Johnson Memorial Scholarship Fund. This will be awarded to a deserving but needy graduating senior from Sweetwater High School in National City. Please send this donation to 13656 Tradition Street, San Diego, CA 92128. Thank you.
