It was 1980. My former husband and I were attending the Pebble Beach Pro-Am Golf Tournament and the photographers followed Jack Nicholas by the hoards at every hole. If he won it would have been his 5th time. In the crowd my husband and I became briefly separated at the 15th hole. While I was watching the action at the 15th hole, above the putting green was the backyard of a beautiful home. In the yard stood 5 or 6 guys all dressed in identical khaki pants, white shirts, ties, and navy blue blazers. Odd, I thought, as I noticed they all had similar hair and dark glasses. Then, looking back at Jack, he putted the ball right into the hole then looked into the yard and waved. One of the matching guys near the back of the group smiled and waved back. A few minutes later my husband and I found each other and he says, "Hey, pretty cool who Jack waved to, huh?" "What do you mean?" I asked. "Are you kidding? he went on, "The guy that waved back was President Ford! All the others were probably Secret Service." Wow. The one time I saw the President of the United States of America in my lifetime. Only I never really knew I saw him at all! On the serious side, I, as a woman, will always remember how Betty Ford always seemed to look up to her husband with so much love and affection in her eyes. And she didn't look up JUST because he was tall. And I'll always remember how she just always seemed to fairly glow in his presence...so much did she bask in being loved by him. And so I remember President Gerald R. Ford in my lifetime...as a loving father and husband to his wife and children.

President Ford was the only president I ever actually said good morning to when I worked for a short time on Capitol Hill. He was gracious, even to strangers. He smiled and said good morning back to me. The staff of various senators held him in high regard. That says a lot about him, that they knew his secrets and still respected him. Theophilus

What I remember about about P. Ford, was he was a strong yet quite person whom we could look up and proud to know he was running the country. Him and his loving wife were honesty and really shared their lives with us and help to improve the lives of people everywhere including theirs.

What I remember about Gerald Ford was his ability to stumble; making me aware he was human with that "How did that step get there?" look on his face turning into a smile. He taught me it's OK to stumble...we humans do that from time to time. It's what happens after the stumble that's important. He lived his life as a gentleman and I appreciate that. My thoughts and prayers are with his widow, Betty. She taught me some of the same lessons by exposing her addiction problems and going on to help thousands of others through the Betty Ford Center. So, Mr. President, rest easy and say "hey" to my daddy for me...you can't miss him...he's the one in the overall! Donna Moe

Mrs. Ford and Family, Please accept my deepest sympathy in this, your time of sorrow, but as you know as Episcopalians, President Ford has entered through the Gate of Death into Eternal and Everlasting Life. While driving home from work today, I heard a snippet of H. Kissinger's eulogy, describing President Ford as "a man of sincerity, serenity, and integrity." I can only echo those sentiments. He and all of you are in my prayers. May God bless you all.
