I saw the God Father of Soul for the first time performing on the Ed Sullivan show. He was singing " Please, Please, Please", and then I heard him on the radio singing," Say it loud, I'm black and I'm proud. One of my favorite song of his was " Don't be a drop out, stay in school. During that era black children was seen but not heard therefore it was good to be told you could be anything you wanted to be. We needed someone to address our self-esteem. Rest in PEACE, Mr. Brown.

I was a little boy in Nigeria in Africa when James Brown (PAPA) this is what I call him, came to Africa to entertain us poor people of the world. I am now 57years old, been in America for the past 35years, had it not been for Papa, I will not be here. For your information, Papa gave all the money he made on his concert back to us. I will never forget this as long as I live . Thanks PAPA. May your soul rest in peace. Amen.

There'll never be another like him. Enjoyed his joy and pride in who he was. He did a lot for others, the poor, the disenfranchised in our society. And what a showman! Such a joy to watch him do his thing. God blessed him with courage and strength here on earth, and he's entertaining now, up there.

I had Two Times to see the Godfather in rare form once in concert NYC and once in alantic city at the Estes arena DYNAMITE he was I will miss him

When I was 13, James Brown came to a small country bar in Ripley, Md. I wondered how he found the place because it was so out of the way but I remember being one of two white people in the bar just dancing and singing right along with him. I later learned that he had given a concert just up the road from the bar. He was a sight and a good time was had by all. I still listen to his music today. His music touched all races. Way to go!
