Mrs. Joan H. (Kochocki) Martinez, a Stoneham resident, passed away on Sunday, November 1, 2009 at Kindred Hospital in Peabody. She was 56 years of age. Joan was born on October 25, 1953 in Jamaica Plain. She was raised in Chelsea where she graduated from St. Rose High School. Joan received her Bachelor’s Degree from Salem State College. She worked for Delta Airlines as a reservations agent for many years and had lived in Stoneham for the past 27 years. Her family and friends will remember her as a wonderful cook.

She was the beloved wife of Mario Martinez with whom she shared 33 years of marriage. Cherished daughter of Helen Kochocki of Saugus and the late Stanley J. Kochocki. Loving mother of Anne Marie Martinez and her husband Dimar of Costa Rica, Lisa Martinez and her husband James of Wakefield, and Julianna Martinez of Stoneham. Dear sister of Janice Utter of Noblesville, IN, Joyce Brown of Saugus, and Joseph Kochocki of Lynnfield. Loving grandmother of Jarred Munoz of Costa Rica.

Funeral from the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., MELROSE, Thursday, November 5 at 9 AM followed by a Funeral Mass in honor and celebration of Joan in St. Patrick Church, 71 Central St., Stoneham at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Wednesday 2-8 PM. Interment in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.

Tributes.com To the Martinez and Kochocki Families: To say I am deeply saddened hearing of the loss of Joanie can't even begin to describe how I feel. I met the “Force of Nature” named Joan Kochocki when I was thirteen years old beginning our days at St. Rose High School. She was self-confident, strong, always on the go and a bit mischievous. You could see it on her face when she had an “idea” to make whatever we were embarking on a little bit more fun. We knew there would be risks involved and that we might have to do “penance” for our fun but we knew it would be worth it. And, fun and laughter was at end of it all. Joanie’s laughter wow! Joanie’s laugh came from the bottom of her soul would resonate throughout a room. There are many of us that could fill the pages of a book with stories, although we probably wouldn’t admit to some of them outside the “inner circle”, but in the center of all the stories was Joanie. We were blessed to have had the opportunity to make such great memories with her and each other. She will be in our hearts forever. Please know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers.

When we were struggling with raising families, work at Delta and other things, Joanie would tell us the funniest stories and regale us with laughter. She was a joy and pleasure to know.
